About Manchester

The capital of the North of England and arguably the country’s most famous footballing city, Manchester is renowned for its sporting prowess.
It’s a city so keen on sport that it even has a whole area dedicated to sporting activities - SportCity, in the east of Manchester. It is home to two Premiership football teams: Manchester United and Manchester City Football Clubs.

Manchester United, which has enjoyed the most success of the two, is based at Old Trafford. This famous stadium - nicknamed “Theatre of Dreams” by Bobby Charlton - seats 75,765 people, making it England’s second largest football ground after Wembley.

Manchester City FC is based at the smaller City of Manchester Football Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 45,805.

Manchester also has several semi-professional football clubs, the most prominent of which is F.C. United of Manchester, and has its own amateur football league, the Manchester Football League.
