About Liverpool

The famous shipping port of Liverpool boasts UNESCO World Heritage status, though its status as the home of The Beatles is its biggest draw for visitors.
Liverpool is also one of the country’s most successful footballing cities. Since the formation of the Football League in 1888, Liverpool has the distinction of being the only city in England to have played top division football every season.

Everton FC, founded in 1878, is based at Goodison Park, one of the world’s first purpose-built football grounds. Opened in 1892, it seats just over 39,500 people.

The city’s other major club is Liverpool FC, which was founded in 1892. It is based at Anfield, which has a seating capacity of 45,276.

Another major stadium is proposed for Liverpool - Stanley Park Stadium - which if completed would seat 60,000 people.

Liverpool and its environs are also home to nearly 200 football pitches available for hire by amateur football teams.
